Let’s start with some growth news again. Reports show that Amazon captures one third of the ecommerce traffic. Also UPS has reported that their daily shipment rates have increased by 2.4% thanks to deliveries of ecommerce businesses. And ecommerce shipments now make half of UPS’s business.
As we’ve said in our previous post, Asia-Pacific has the highest marketshare in ecommerce. And Asia’s ecommerce market grew 32% in 2015, with China leading the sales and purchases.
The CEO of Michael Kors, John Idol, said that the decrease in retail sales were caused by online sales. With increasing their online sales in the US, now Micheal Kors will get its online stores into 22 different countries. The idea of Michael Kors expansion in ecommerce is not because they are planning on getting very high rates of sales but they are planning on luring customers into the physical stores so they can interact with the brand more. Also the brand will improve their mobile store since the mobile traffic increases every month.
Speaking of mobile, Under Armour an athleticwear brand which has plans on passing Nike with increasing sales and being number 1 in sportwear, reported that 23% of their online sales was via mobile devices.
Forrester research showed that mobile affects offline sales and the effect is increasing continuously. Thus, now companies are trying to improve their omnichannel experiences. In Canada, the marketers are putting more resources into mobile ads. It is estimated that the expense of mobile ads will reach $2.09 million by the end of 2016. Moreover, Google concludes its mobile ad revenues keep increasing every year.
It seems that mobile commerce and mobile traffic are becoming crucial to every ecommerce business all over the world.
Conversion is another important factor of ecommerce business. And by some reason some customers leave their carts abandoned right before check out. And 28% of potential customers do this because of unexpected shipping costs. And 23% of them abandon carts because they need to create an account.
However, 24 % of the customers said that they would spend more to pass the free shipping threshold.
